Synthetic Oil vs. Conventional Oil in Greer, SC

Is your vehicle ready for its next oil change? Perfect! Before you schedule your next service appointment online, it might be useful to read up on the different types of motor oil: synthetic, synthetic blend and conventional. Each type serves a unique purpose in your Ford, so when our technicians ask what type your vehicle requires at the D&D Motors' service center, you'll have your answer ready. Discover the differences between each oil type below.

Synthetic Oil

Once only used in high-performance sports cars, synthetic oil is now recommended by more and more mainstream manufacturers for optimal performance. Synthetic oil is the way of the future — it offers better gas mileage, engine protection and long-term use than conventional oil. How? It's gone through additional distillation and purification processes to remove impurities and tailor individual molecules to better fit the design of the modern engine. Not only will synthetic oil help your engine battle high temperatures and clean out residue deposits, it will enhance your powertrain's durability.

Synthetic Blend Oil

Synthetic blend oil is exactly what it sounds like: a mixture of synthetic with conventional oil. This oil type is commonly used in vehicles that carry heavy loads, like trucks, and operate frequently at a high RPM, like sports cars. We would include high-mileage motor oil in this category — it's a specific blend that contains additives to meet the unique needs of vehicles with 75,000-100,000 miles or more.

Conventional Oil

Conventional oil used to be the most common oil requested at our service center, but it's being slowly replaced by synthetic. Conventional oil comes in a variety of viscosity levels and lubricant qualities, but since it's not as refined as synthetic, it'll break down at a quicker rate. The biggest perk to using conventional oil over the other options is that it's far cheaper, so while you'll have to schedule an oil change more frequently than if you were to request synthetic, it won't drain your wallet with each service invoice.
