The Ford EcoSport is Ford’s compact SUV model.  As a compact SUV, the EcoSport offers a roomy, convenient driving experience with greater fuel efficiency. The current generation of the Ford EcoSport was launched in 2012 and has been a Ford mainstay in the years since.

Drivers interested in the Ford EcoSport have four models to choose from. The standard Ford EcoSport S is the baseline model, offering great value and efficiency. The EcoSport SE, SES, and Titanium models each offer different features and specifications for this line of vehicles. Here is everything you need to know about the Ford EcoSport for 2022.

EcoSport: Ford’s Compact SUV

With the EcoSport, Ford offers the capacity of an SUV with a driving experience more comparable to a smaller car. Compact SUVs are ideal for drivers that want something bigger than a sedan, but more efficient than a full-size SUV. And that’s just the niche that the Ford EcoSport fills.


Every EcoSport model comfortably seats five passengers, with the standard model offering 91 cubic feet of passenger volume. The EcoSport S features 21 feet of cargo capacity, but that can increase to 50 feet with folding rear seats. By comparison, a sedan, like the Ford Fusion, maxes out at 16 cubic feet of cargo space. For drivers who want a little more room than a sedan affords, models like the Ford EcoSport are perfect.

The compact SUV model also offers a smoother ride and better fuel economy than most full-sized SUVs. The standard Ford EcoSport gets 23 miles per gallon in the city and 29 MPG on the highway.

The 2022 Ford EcoSport SE

The 2022 Ford EcoSport SE offers many of the same technical specifications as the base model. The fuel economy and capacity of the Ford EcoSport S and SE are identical. However, the SE also comes with a wider range of advanced features, both standard and optional.


For instance, Ford offers the Convenience and Appearance packages to all EcoSport SE drivers in 2022. The Convenience Package offers advanced safety features like a blind spot information system. It also offers enhanced accessibility features like voice-activated navigation and additional charging outlets. The Appearance Package offers features to make the EcoSport’s cabin even more comfortable and stylish.

The 2022 EcoSport SE also comes standard with heated front seats, a power moonroof, enhanced climate control, and much more. While the driving experience between the EcoSport S and EcoSport SE may be similar, SE drivers have more available features.


Also new to the Ford EcoSport SE this year is an all-wheel drive engine with greater horsepower. Previous EcoSport models used front wheel drive, but the manufacturer made the switch for the 2022 model year. The all-wheel drive model offers better all-around handling, especially in tough conditions. 


With the new four cylinder engine on the EcoSport SE, the 2022 model saw a significant increase in horsepower. The 2021 EcoSport SE, with its three cylinder engine, topped out at 123 HP. But the new and improved 2022 Ford EcoSport SE can reach up to 166 HP. That increase makes the EcoSport one of the more powerful compact SUVs on the market this year.
